Depeche Mode are in the final phases of mixing with Ben Hillier, Daniel Miller and Tony Hoffer and have nearly finished the new album.
The band have recently finished filming the video for the first single "Wrong" in New York this week. According to the band it’s an exciting and innovative video and
they look forward to releasing it in the New Year.
In February/March of next year the band are going to start production rehearsals for their upcoming tour in both New York City and Santa Barbara - DM consider warm-up gigs prior to the European tour start in or closeby the mentioned rehearsal towns.

Dave Gahan recently gave an interview to Pop & Hiss (L.A. Times) which includes a lot of information
regarding the new album:
“We’ve completed the record,” the band’s frontman, Dave Gahan, told Pop & Hiss on Thursday via phone from New York. “There might be a couple of bits and pieces we’ve got to clean up, but I feel really good about the fact that we’re finished,” he continued. “I think we’ve made a great record.”
Gahan said the as-yet-untitled album, slated for release this coming spring, will have about 12 tracks.
“We’ve been spoiled for choice with this one because we recorded more songs for this record than we ever had for any [other] record,” he said. “Maybe I’m old school or whatever but once you start going over 12 songs, I think it becomes a little weird.”
Gahan confirmed the 2009 disc, which will be the first for EMI in the U.S. (the band has been releasing albums for Warner Music Group in North America for much of its career), will contain the tracks “Wrong” and “Peace,” snippets of which have been circulating the Web. Gahan, however, clarified that the actual title of “Peace” is “Peace Will Come to Me.”
Additionally, he unveiled the titles of three more new tracks — “Hole to Feed,” “Comeback” and “In Chains,” all co-written by Gahan — that are likely set for inclusion on the album. Gahan added that the recording sessions, which took place over the last several months in New York and Santa Barbara, were productive and that he and the act’s principal songwriter, Martin Gore, are working well together.
“We have about 18 songs,” he said, even hinting that the band will release a special EP or online-only add-on with the extra material next year.
But Gahan stressed that the EMI release will be just that — a proper record that doesn’t run too long.
Said Gahan: “I’ve been listening to the current play list, and I’m always still thinking of an album like Side 1, and Side 2. It’s like when you see a movie or something, and it goes over two hours and you’re like ‘OK, I get it.’ ”
So what will the new material sound like? Rolling Stone last month ran an “In the Studio” featuring the band, on which Gore was quoted saying the set has a “spiritual” feel.
“I know what [Martin] means by that, but if anyone’s thinking that the record will have a Gospel feel, it couldn’t be further from that,” Gahan said. “I feel like [the record] is [about] looking outside and a yearning for somehow coming together. The world is changing. Watching Obama getting elected was great. We watched it on TV in Santa Barbara and I get goosebumps thinking about that still. It’s going to take a long time, but I think some of that same feeling, that sentiment [of hope] is in the work.”
And though the band is increasingly fond of using guitars, the new disc may see a return to the Depeche Mode’s original analog synth roots — at least on a few tracks.
“Martin’s got this new fetish which is basically buying gear on EBay,” Gahan said. “He must have bought up half of the analog equipment around the world. We’ve got all these old drum machines from the 1970s, and even some of the stuff that we used in the ’80s as well, like old Moogs and Arps.”
As an example, Gahan noted that one of the new album’s stars is a piece of gear dubbed “The Colonel” - a vintage 1970s-era Steiner Parker synthesizer. It’s an instrument, said Gahan, “that makes crazy noises. We found it really inspiring and used it in a lot of things [on the new record].”
Depeche Mode announced portions of its 2009 “Tour of the Universe” earlier this year and is set to reveal U.S. dates in the coming weeks. Depeche Mode has maintained a strong fan base in the L.A.-area, thanks to such famed concerts as the 1988 Rose Bowl sellout captured in the film “Depeche Mode 101.” The band last played Southern California in 2006 at the Coachella music & arts festival.
“We had a great time on stage that night,” Gahan gushed. “It was one of those gigs where you just feel like you’re floating on air. I was singing great, the atmosphere was great, everything was right. It was very special.”
While Depeche Mode’s famously devoted fans await new music and tour dates, they have been busy bemoaning the fact that the band’s music has turned up in a Hilary Duff song. Her “Reach Out” heavily samples the band’s “Personal Jesus.”
“I don’t know what I think about it…. It’s a little weird,” laughed Gahan. “I think it was something that Martin didn’t really have any choice over, they kind of did it anyway. But, you know, it is what it is. Look, my daughter loves it. You know what she said to me? ‘But it’s not the same, Dad.’ ”

Depeche Mode's 'Touring The Angel' was one of the most successful, highly grossing and critically acclaimed tours of the last year. Hailed as the greatest live performances of their career, it can be re-lived, when it's released as a special edition 3-disc set, featuring the full-length live show and a host of exclusive extras on two DVDs and a live audio CD.

The first DVD features over 20 stunning live songs, including the recent hit singles 'Precious', 'A Pain That I'm Used To', 'Suffer Well' and 'John The Revelator' plus the definitive 'Just Can't Get Enough', 'I Feel You', 'Enjoy The Silence' and many more. DVD2 features a range of exclusive extras, including: two bonus live songs - 1986's smash-hit 'A Question of Lust' and 'Playing The Angel's 'Damaged People' - plus a 20-minute documentary featuring Anton Corbijn, who directed the video for 'Suffer Well' and created the tour's six stage screens, which also appear here.

The signature sound of legendary alternative rock band Depeche Mode has been translated to The Sims native Simlish language for the first time ever. 'Suffer Well,' a track from Depeche Mode's critically acclaimed album 'Playing the Angel,' has been recorded in Simlish and will be made available to fans of music and PC games through The Sims™ 2 Open for Business.
Depeche Mode's lead singer, David Gahan, said, "Depeche Mode has always been open to new ways of sharing our music, but re-recording a Simlish-language version of 'Suffer Well' just sounded completely bizarre. Of course, that's why we couldn't resist doing it.".
The language Simlish is a mixture of Ukrainian, Navajo and Tagalog (Phillipin). The recording is released as part of the new Sims-2 Add-On “Open For Business”, which has been released today. The completely animated video featuring the band in scenes of the game will be made available for download on depechemode.com and the official Sims-2 webpage shortly.

With 800,000 tickets sold on the European leg of their massive world tour, Depeche Mode is set to return to the U.S. to headline opening night at Coachella (April 29) as part of a new round of North American dates—including April 27 at San Francisco’s Shoreline Amphitheatre--that will be announced shortly. As their new single “Suffer Well” emerges at radio, the band continues to tour in support of Playing The Angel, their highly praised new album (Sire/Reprise). Depeche Mode is currently overseas where they’ve sold out an imposing 69 stadium and arena dates throughout 30 countries, highlighted by the turnout of 90,000 fans in Düsseldorf, Germany, while an additional 50,000 are expected next month in Copenhagen, Denmark.
A staple of the band’s critically acclaimed live show, which the New York Post (12/9/05) hailed “a celebration,” the song “Suffer Well” is one of three album tracks written by first-time contributor Dave Gahan. The singer’s tune prompted Jim Farber of the New York Daily News (Oct 16, 2005) to proclaim: “a song like ‘Suffer Well’ stands among the group’s most engaging dance tracks.”
The video for “Suffer Well” was directed by longtime Depeche Mode visionary Anton Corbijn, who has now guided 20 of the band’s music videos, in addition to recent collaborations with U2, Coldplay and the Killers. Filmed in Los Angeles, the video finds GAHAN realizing the hopeless consequences that follow a single bad decision, with offbeat appearance by bandmates Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher.
13.01.2006
As reported in December, "Suffer Well" will be released as the third single from the number one album "Playing The Angel". "Suffer Well" is going to be released on February 17 (EU), Feb 20 (UK), and Feb 21 (US).

Depeche Mode have released their new 2DVD "One Night In Paris" today, which captures the band's performance in
Paris, France on their 2001 Exciter Tour. The live DVD set, which was filmed and directed by Anton Corbijn, features many extras, including a documentary
about the show, still photographs with commentary, fan interviews, band interviews, and all the projection films that were shown on stage. Please go to

The amount of pre-orders already exceeded the "GOLD" status in Germany.
According to MTVnews who had the chance to interview Dave Gahan, Dave will enter the studio in July to begin work on the 15
songs he has demoed for his as-yet-untitled debut solo album, tentatively scheduled for release in March 2003. The singer will be working with
producer/percussionist Ken Thomas (Sigur Rós) and cellist/guitarist Knox Chandler (Siouxsie and the Banshees, Psychedelic Furs) on the album.
He also plans to tour in support of the effort, including some possible surprise club dates around the end of the year. The brooding vocalist said
his sobriety - he battled a debilitating, nearly fatal heroin addiction in the mid-late '90s - has coloured many of his songs. "I'm just really full
of energy, and getting healthy is a theme that has crept into my lyrics and vocal melodies," he said. "They're about wanting to find a place of peace
and belonging, but at the same time experiencing that and seeing it through other people. I always played around with writing songs, but when you're
spending a lot of time in bars you have a lot of big ideas, but you don't do much with them."
As examples, he cited the track "Hold On," which describes the birth of his daughter. Gahan said some of the songs will likely have the signature
Depeche Mode keyboard sound, a demo of "A Little Piece" mixes gospel emotion and eerie music that wouldn't be out of place on a song by expat
American cult singer Scott Walker. Gahan admitted that the demo initially scared his record company because it was such a departure from his DM work,
but that he doesn't mind bucking expectations.
Don't plan on enjoying the silence for too long, though: Once all this solo action is out of the way, Gahan said he expects Depeche Mode will get back
in the studio to record their next album.

mood at all of their concerts enjoying themselves and delivering great shows that unfortunately were
not entirely sold out. At some shows Martin´s acoustic tracks were changed to include songs that haven´t

shows the lead singer of Depeche Mode, Dave Gahan, being chased by hunting dogs. "They were quite ferocious dogs,
and the director told me not to look them in the eyes. I just told him that they'd kill me anyway, and that the
cameras should be ready to film that.", said a joking Gahan.

Depeche Mode have issued a press release concerning the making of
their newest video "Dream on". Depeche Mode found themselves on the historic American road 66
on the weekend of February 17th and 18th, shooting the video for "Dream On". Working for the first
time with esteemed director Stephane Sednaoui, Depeche Mode are seen traveling in a classic
black Lincoln Continental near Barstow. Sednaoui has lots of experimental post-production work
to do on the video that "we're all anxious to see," notes Fletcher. Seen driving the car is
Gahan, who reveals that "Martin and Andrew are my passengers, but the viewer won't know for sure
if they're truly in the car with me." "Dream On" goes to radio in mid-March, with the video to
follow shortly thereafter.
The winners of the KROQ contest last Friday, Harold Washington and his wife Adrienne, got to
hang out with DM on the video shoot for "Dream On". Washington got hold of some interesting info. In a posting on the
official DM webboard he writes that the band are going to start touring in June in Toronto and end up in California
most likely in mid August. They have programmed 24 songs in total but there's no fixed setlist yet. The band won't do
Stripped because "it's gotten too old". In further news, a certain Andrew may break out a bass guitar during the gigs.

Dream On
Shine
The Sweetest Condition

pace during the last three weeks before they turn their attentions to mixing, which will commence
on 20th November. Spirits are high and they now have a total of 11 or 12 new songs. The album should
be mixed before Christmas. Drummer Christian Eigner joined the band in the studio recently, and
has played on a few tracks. Also, that lanky Dutchman Anton Corbijn has visited with his camera.

The band are currently on a two week break, while Martin writes a
few more songs. The band will then resume work on the album until the middle of November, when
they should enter the mixing stage. [Courtesy: the official Depeche Mode page]
After returning to the studio in June and July with producer Mark Bell,
Depeche Mode took the month of August off. Martin was busy writing more songs for the new
album, and had no time for a real holiday. Andy went to Mallorca with his family for two weeks
in August. Dave took the longest break of the three, managing a trip to London to visit family,
before spending two weeks on the Isle Of Wight, then flying off to Greece for 2 more weeks.
At the moment, several songs are almost 100% complete, and the new material sounds excellent.
The only outside musicians used so far is a string section for one of the new songs. With the
band currently working on the next recording period in the US at the present, the plan is to
complete a third, and possibly final recording period, by Christmas. At that point, we should
have a much better idea on how the new album is coming together. [Courtesy: the official Depeche Mode page]
The band are now back in the studio, in the USA this time, working on
arrangements for about ten new songs, and making steady progress. Enthusiasm is at an all time
high, and over the next two or three months, the band will be actively planning for the future.
Everyone is very excited about the current project. [Courtesy: the official Depeche Mode page]

Happy 39th Birthday, MART.
The band have now finished the first period of recording. A handful
of songs are 80% finished, and sounding brilliant. The atmosphere in the studio has been great,
and everyone is now looking forward to the summer break, and to starting up again in September.

Happy 39th Birthday, FLETCH.
Depeche Mode started recording their new album in London on
Monday 5th June. They will be working with Mark Bell producing during this initial period,
which will take them to the middle of July. Everyone is very excited about working together
again, on the 8 or 9 new songs already written. [Courtesy:

In contradiction to what has been rumoured, Gareth Jones is
continuing work on the new Depeche Mode album. Gareth Jones spoke exclusively with Side-Line
magazine and denied the rumour he would only join Depeche Mode for the workshop sessions and
be replaced for the actual album sessions. The wellknown producer also said the band has by
now finished 6 to 7 songs for the upcoming album. Dave has been over from New York and done
some excellent vocals on 4 tunes already," Jones reported recently.
Happy 38th Birthday, DAVE.
Psyche into Depeche Mode. The German band Psyche has covered
Depeche Mode's "Just can`t get enough" for a new Depeche Mode Tribute CD. The album
was told to be released on the Bloodline label but according to Bloodline that's not true.
David Gahan phoned Richard Blade during Richard's farewell broadcast
on April 28th. Along with talking about the band's history with Richard and KROQ, David also
discussed current band plans. These include possibly going into the studio in June (including
some possible recording in Los Angeles), with a spring record release and a summer tour.

At the recent BONG Convention in Basildon (on April 15th), messages
from the band were played in regard to their future.
DAVID - "Hi this is Dave, and I'm sitting in a caff in New York, and I just wanted to say Hi
to all of you over there in Basildon, at the convention. I hope you're having a great time.
Hopefully, by the end of this year we'll have finished a new record. We're going to start
recording in June. Martin's written some great songs already, and I just wanted to say Hi.
And we'll see you all again next year, when hopefully we'll be out on the road. All right.
See you, Bye.".
FLETCH - "Good evening Basildon. Good evening the DM convention. This is Andy Fletcher, the
best one-fingered keyboard player in the world - probably. Got a bit of a sore throat. Chelsea
are doing very well so I've been doing a lot of singing and cheering. Have a good time, and
don't waste Basildon. See you soon."
MARTIN - "Hello this is Martin. I'd like to welcome you all to wonderful Basildon. Sorry I
can't be there, but as you can hear I'm in the studio at the moment, working on some new stuff
with Gareth, and one of my friends Paul. And I hope you all have a great time, and I'm sure
you've got lots to do. I don't know if you've seen the sight yet - all those wonderful sights
there are in Basildon - all those historic places. Anyway, have a great time and see you soon.
Bye." [Courtesy:

project which is a NIN studio-side project initiated in 1995.
A short summary of the 4min Andy and Daniel interview that was part
the 4hr long show on BBC radio 1 yesterday. Andy introduced himself as Gascognes proprieter
and occasional member of depeche. He said that Seymour Stein (big usa label boss) was at the
first London gig in 1980 and they have always remained in touch. According to Fletch Daniel Miller
is a really nice and honest guy and they are said to have the best record deal around.
Daniel Miller said he felt that when big record labels say you can't put things out on an
independent label it gives you more strength to do it.
Andy Fletcher and Daniel Miller are going to be heard on BBC Radio 1
tonight. It is a part of an four hour long show from 8-12 p.m. Other bands that will be
present are Blur, Oasis and they are going to discuss mainly about independent music. The
interview is still on and I will post any news on Depeche tomorrow.
DEPECHE MODE PROGRESS REPORT - Depeche Mode were back together
recently, working on four new songs in Martin's home studio. The band also had meetings
with their manager, Jonathan Kessler, and Daniel Miller to discuss, among other things,
the direction of the new album. Work actively continues. [Courtesy:

A new Depeche Mode book for bootleg traders and collectors has been
released recently. The author is Bernd Richter who had been responsible for the online bootleg
overview "Depeche.org". The book has 300 pages and contains more than 200 listed live bootlegs
(all with picture and tracklist). The book is 35.00 DM or 20.00 US$ and can be ordered at:
Devotional Trading by Depeche.org
The new Depeche Mode book by Steve Malins is now available in
German language and can be ordered at several book stores. It is entitled "Depeche Mode - die
Biographie".
The release of the German DVD "Videos 86>98" was postponed again
to sometime in February 2000.
Andy Fletcher told a fan who met him in London on 27th November
that Mart has written a couple of new tracks that are great (according to Fletch). Other
bad or good news is that Martin's wife will file for a separation soon. The reason for this
is not known. Martin has been missing for three days at the time of the conversation.
The band and Jonathan Kessler were all in London last week,
and during the course of several meetings, they discussed, amongst other things, the band's
future plans. The mood was very positive, and Martin played the others a couple of new ideas
he's been working on. It looks very likely that the band will be in the studio next year.

Depeche Mode singles and albums in Germany will be integrated in EMI Electrola GmbH until
31st March 2000. EMI assures that these news will not affect MUTE Germany and DM releases.

CPR's DM page would like to congratulate the Depeche Mode manager
Jonathan Kessler, and his wife Staci, on the birth of their daughter Angelica, on the
afternoon of Saturday 25th September. Angelica weighed in at eight and a half pounds (3.9kg), and
we all wish Jonathan and Staci lots of luck in parenthood, and a very happy future. [Courtesy:

Andy Fletcher told a fan who met him in London on 10th October
that there is still no progress with new material as Martin is still writing new material.
However, Fletch said a tour would occur much sooner than the 4 year gap between Devotional
and Singles tour. The scheduled first band meeting in the studio (see news 25.08.99) was
postponed to November. Anyway, Mart and Andy were spotted at the entrance to Abbey Road Studios
a couple of days ago.
The release of the DVD "Videos 86>98" (see news 01.09.99) in the U.S.
was postponed again to 12th October. In Germany the release was postponed to sometime in
November.
Dave Gahan was to be seen on TV (Channel 4) on 7/9/99 at 6.50pm
with a review of his all time favourite record. He talked about it for 5 minutes and it was
(perhaps inevitably for an ex-punk such as he is) "The Clash-London Calling". It was good to
see him looking in rude health again. The interview featured just this item as it was for
inclusion in Jo Whiley Show - Shorts, an edited version of her usual 1 hour long show.
The three singles box sets that were issued by Mute Records (UK)

released on DVD in the U.S. on October 5th, 1999 (Reprise 2-38504). It will be a straight
port of the video version, which contains most of the videos recorded from 1986 to 1999,
as well as the "Singles 86>98" Electronic Press Kit ("A Short Film"). A U.K. release will
follow at a date to be announced later. [Courtesy:

I had the opportunity to interview Andy Fletcher one week ago
when I met him in London. DM will go in the studio in September to record songs for a
new album. He did not want to betray the location but smiled when I asked if it will be
Abbey Road studios again. More information on that will follow soon.
For those of you who are interested in this; he spent his vacation in New York and
Italy.
On Thursday July 29th, at 6:25pm, in New York City, David's wife
Jennifer gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Stella Rose Gahan. Obviously, Dave is very
happy, and very proud.

A new interview CD with an 18min Dave interview was released
by a small German CD label (SONOTEC - private talks series). This CD contains an early
97 interview which was given to an US radio station. The CD is limited and numbered to 10.000
copies. The shape of the CD is not a round disc but imitates Dave on the microphone. A
copy is about 15,00 DM.
According to
dmhotwire.de there will be a new tribute CD released in Brasil very soon. The CD will
be titled "Industrial Songs Of Devotion - A Tribute To Depeche Mode". The tracklisting
can be found on the HOTWIRE-page.

Thursday 27th May, Martin was presented with an award for
"International Achievement", by the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters, at
the 44th Ivor Novello Awards, at The Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane.
Martin was presented with his award by Daniel Miller, whose speech commended Martin's
work as Depeche Mode's songwriter, and the fact that for nearly 20 years the band
have managed to connect, through their music, with people all over the world.
Other attendees at the music industry-only event included Rod Stewart and Robbie Williams.

Happy 37th Birthday, DAVE.
Following various meetings between the band members in London last
month, we are happy to report that they all expressed positive feelings regarding the future,
and they look forward to getting back together in the studio later in the year. Meanwhile,
Martin will shortly be getting down to some serious work in the song-writing department,
and we all look forward to hearing some new material in due course.

A new Depeche Mode book by Steve Malins will be released in May.
Up to now it is still untitled but it will include extensive interviews and a complete
biography.
Some close sources to the band have confirmed that Martin is
busy writing new songs and that DM will go to the studio again soon. This confirms what
Fletch said in February (21.2.99 news).
The organizer of the Danish Roskilde festival reports Depeche
Mode will definitely not be playing there.
Depeche Mode did not win the German Echo award.
The category "best international band" was won by the Lighthouse family.
Dave got married on St.Valentine's day (14.2.99) for the
third time. Dave and Jennifer gave their consent in New York.
Fletch told a fan who met him in London that DM will not do
any festival shows this summer. Moreover they are going to start working on a new album
very soon. This info would confirm what Martin said (29.12.98 news) at the end of the
tour.
MUTE RECORDS is gonna be re-releasing all DM full length
videos (Live In Hamburg, Strange, Strange Too, 101 & Devotional) on March 1st.
The official Glastonbury page reports that Depeche Mode
will definitely not be playing at the Glastonbury festival. Against that a performance
at the Roskilde festival in Denmark is very likely. The announcements for Roskilde who
is going to play will be made within the next weeks, hopefully with Depeche.
If the band will win the "Echo"-award they won't perform a
song live. It is also not known if the band will be present at the conferment which will
be held in Hamburg March, 4th. The event will be shown on German TV (ARD) on March, 5th
at 8.15pm CET.
Depeche Mode are nominated for the German "Echo"-award. If
the band will win the award there is a possibility that they are going to perform a
song live. The decision who is gonna win the award is made at the beginning of March
so there will be an announcement within the next days.
Some sources on TV and radio report DM are unlikely to be
contributing a track to the next Bond movie due to other commitments. In comparison
with that Radio Hamburg reported today they will doing the next bond theme track. So we
still dont know what is right until official notice.
Four months after its release The Singles 86>98 album is still
in the German Top100 charts at number 42.
The below mentioned DM TV-special which will be shown on
ZDF will be a portrait of the band from their beginning up to the Ultra era showing
the change of their musical style over the years.
German TV channel ZDF will show a 1 hour Depeche Mode special
which is called "ZDF-Pop-Galerie" on Sat, January 30th. This special will start at 1:30
am CET (early Sunday morning).
DM and Mute are going to release a continuation of the DMBX
box sets which will have the numbers 4, 5 and 6. The box sets are scheduled to be
released in autumn of 1999. Many thanks to TOAD who has posted this info.
The release date for the album The Singles 81>85 in the US is
scheduled for January, 19th.
The below mentioned MTV special will contain the following:
5:00pm-6:00pm parts of the 101 concert, 6:00pm-6:30pm rockumentary, 6:30pm-7:00pm interview
with the band, 7:00pm-8:00pm live in Cologne98.
UK Newspapers (The Sun) and TV (Channel 4 news) report Depeche
are going to headline the Glastonbury/UK festival this year. The three day festival has
an attendance of 150 thousand people every year. The sources report REM will headline the
first night, Metallica the second and Depeche the third.
MTV Europe will show a three hour Depeche Mode special on
Sunday, January 24th at 17.00 CET. This special will contain parts of rocumentaries
which were already shown in the past, parts of the Cologne show (5/10/98) and several
interviews.
Some guys I know from Germany had the opportunity to
talk to Mart at the aftershow party in Anaheim. Mart said the band will tour again
in 1999 but the shows will start at the earliest in September. The band is gonna use
the first half of the new year writing on new material but he did not say if this
will be a complete studio album or single tracks only.
Addendum to the report on the last show. Dave wished the
audience a Merry Christmas and members of Stabbing Westward joined Depeche onstage
for Personal Jesus. Fletch addressed the crowd prior to Just Can't Get Enough as he
thanked the Los Angeles fans for sticking with them through the bad times and that
words could not express the emotions the band felt in the enthusiastic crowds which
they played to. Fletch then claimed this tour as "the happiest tour we've been on
in a long time". Then he dropped an early Christmas present on the audience by
announcing that Depeche would return to Los Angeles for another series of concerts in 1999.
So touring again in 1999 is definitely confirmed.
The Singles Tour 86>98 is finished now. The last shows
had nothing too special about it but there were again a few changes of the setlist.
On the 2nd LA show (Inglewood) and on the final show Sister of night and Stripped
were combined first time for the setlist.
The band will be on vacation the next months.
Martin Gore answered to some fans question. He did not deny
the rumours about the Bond theme so maybe we can enjoy a new track soon.
-> go to the official DM page: the
official Depeche Mode page
German TV channel VIVA2 announced DM will be contributing
a track or even the theme to the next James Bond 007 movie which will come to the
cinemas in November 1999. VIVA2 will also show a Christmas special on Christmas day
(Dec 25th 3 pm. CET) which is called DM - the greatest hits. This one hour special
will be the same that was broadcast in April 97 completed with the new singles..
DM went Gold in Germany (250.000 sold copies of the 86>98
album). The award was presented by Mr.Heisel from INTERCORD in Chicago.
DM headlined a fantastic mini gig yesterday at the Shrine Expo
Hall, Los Angeles which was part of the KROQ almost acoustic show. The setlist was:
Barrel Of A Gun / Policy of Truth / It's No Good / Walking in my Shoes
/ Sister of Night - acoustic / A Question of Lust - acoustic /
Enjoy The Silence - acoustic / In Your Room / Behind The Wheel /
Personal Jesus / Never Let Me Down Again - with Billy Corgan (11 tracks in total).
As
supposed the rehearsed tracks Sister... and Question of lust were performed but the
surprise of the setlist was a never before played version of Enjoy The Silence with Dave
on vocals, accompanied by piano, guitar and light drums. Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins)
joined Dave and the band on NLMDA in singing and playing guitar to the song. Billy sung
the first verse of the song, then sang duet with Dave for the rest of the song.
Since its first performance in Boise, "Behind the wheel" has
become the standard track now on the first encore. It was performed again in Seattle and
Sacramento. The Sacramento show had another highlight yesterday when "Question of lust"
was played acoustically without Fletch on the keys and Christian. There was also no
support band performing as Stabbing Westwards singer (US support) also had serious voice
problems. I think rehearsing especially acoustic tracks could mean that these tracks
will be part of the KROQ acoustic session, we will see.
Another wonder happened yesterday in Vancouver. Martin sang
Sister of Night acoustically, he mentioned to the crowd that this was the first time
ever that DM has played this song live. Behind the Wheel was played in the place of
Stripped again.
A wonder happened yesterday in Boise, Idaho. Behind the
wheel was performed first time on this tour. It replaced Stripped on the first
encore. So everything about the non-changing setlist was wrong. I do not know if this
was the only performance of the tour but I will keep you informed on this place once
it was played again.
Part 3 of 3 was shown on MTV tonight. The tracklisting is
as follows: Painkiller-Intro, Question of time, It's no good, Never let me down again,
Only when I lose myself, Enjoy the silence, Personal jesus, Home, I feel you.
So it is still disappointing to have nearly half the show only.
Depeche Mode is going to perform at the "KROQ Almost Acoustic
X-Mas" in Los Angeles on December 12th. I don't know how many tracks they are gonna play but
I will keep you informed. Other bands headlining the 2-day event to be held at The Shrine
Auditorium are: Garbage, The Cardigans, Barenaked Ladies, and Hole.
Depeche Mode gave the announced Internet Video Chat from
backstage in Chicago on Tuesday, November 24th that was sponsored by Rollingstone.com,
in which the band answered questions from their online fans. As far as I know it was
quite boring with no new information. Especially Fletch must have had a very bad day
as he was very annoyed about some questions.
Part 2 of 3 was shown on MTV tonight with a big
disappointment. Part 1 was shown again with no new tracks. The final part 3 will
be shown on Thursday 26th with hopefully other tracks.
MTV repeats the one hour version of the Cologne gig
on December 6th at 4pm. CET

Part 1 of 3 of the Cologne/Köln gig was shown on MTV Germany
tonight. Part 1 contain the following tracks: Painkilla-Intro, Question of time,
Only when I lose myself, Enjoy the silence and Personal jesus. The quality is brilliant
and the camera positions are very professional. Part 2 will follow on Sunday 22nd, get
your VCRs ready again then, it is worth while.
The Singles album 81>85 and 86>98 are now available
on vinyl as well with no limitation. Both albums were released as a gatefold sleeve
and the records itselves are not as heavy as the ones available with the limited
boxes.
The North American leg becomes better after some
average shows. Yesterday DM performed their best gig so far of this leg at the
Gund Arena in Cleveland with a very good audience. Keep on moding!!
The re-released "Singles 81-85" album entered the
German charts at number 21. That's a better position than the original album
reached ever in the past. The 86>98 album dropped from 4 to number 7.
DM performed "In your room" live on the "Letterman"
show last night with their live supports Christian, Peter, Janet and Jordan.
The show was recorded at Ed Sullivan Theater (CBS studios), New York.
I got a hot info last night regarding shows in
99. DMs crew is booked for rehearsing in spring!!! So this would mean,
some shows should follow shortly after that.
Depeche Mode will perform on "The Late Show with
David Letterman" on November 2nd. This marks the first time the band has
appeared on the show. (Courtesy of depechemode.com) -> get your VCRs ready!!
In Germany there is no opportunity to watch it as CBS is not available
here.
Andy Fletcher answered to some fans question
but with no new information about a possible tour next year. What he also
said is that the setlist won´t change also in the US. As for possible
shows next year he said this is all speculation but they are going to think
about it. -> go to the official DM page: the
official Depeche Mode page
The North American leg started last night in
Worcester. Depeche played the usual set we all know from the European shows.
We will see if the set is going to change in other shows but I think this
will not happen. I heard many Americans were disappointed from the performance,
stage design and the songs, thats why the audience was not that good last
night.
Peter Gordeno and Christian Eigner answered to
some fans questions -> go to the official DM page: the
official Depeche Mode page
The Singles album "86>98" went straight into
the German charts at number 1, but dropped to number 2 in it´s
second week. The highest chart position for "Only when I lose myself" in
Germany was number 2.
The European leg is finished now and DM were
performing some great gigs. The Spanish shows had the same tracklisting
as the other ones with the usual great atmosphere in Spain. A friend of
mine attended the San Sebastian show but there was nothing too special
about it.
the European leg of the tour will finish tonight,
I will put some reviews of the Spanish shows as soon as possible here.
The North American leg will start on October 27th in Worcester.
I will be getting a professional video of the
Munich show very soon that was filmed by the German TV channel BR3 but
it´s unfortunately 25 mins only. Some clips of this tape were shown
at a local TV programme to report on DM´s gig in Munich.
the German leg of the Singles tour is finished
now and it was great as always. The best show was definitely Frankfurt,
11th, but Leipzig, Berlin 2 and Cologne 1 were also good ones. I will put
some pictures of the German shows onto that page as soon as possible.
The existing rumours about touring again in summer
next year are possibly true, but it won´t be a tour but some festival
shows. This is confirmed by an interview given by Fletch to BONG magazine
and I also had the chance to talk to some crew members who said there will
be some preparations for summer next year. I hope we don´t have to
wait for another five years again and all of this is true.
